What Is Low Voltage Outdoor Lighting?

Hey, Brian!

I’m a new homeowner here in Metro Portland. A neighbor mentioned I might want to add an outdoor low voltage lighting system to increase our safety. Since I understand that you design and install these systems, what is it?

Thanks!

Hey, Mike!

That’s a great question!

Most homes run on 120 volts of electrical power. Low voltage outdoor lighting runs on 12-24 volts which makes it much safer  (less risk of electrical shock) and we don’t have to bury electrical cables as deep.

Because of the wide variety of outdoor lighting fixtures available, we can design lighting for your deck, your garden, any water feature (e.g., a fountain or pool), or to light any pathways.

How does a landscape lighting system work?

Your home runs on 120v power. By running that power through a transformer (no, not Optimus Prime or Bumblebee, the Transformer toys), we can lower the voltage to 12 to 24v for the outdoor system. This lower voltage gives you greater flexibility in the design and installation of your landscape lighting.

As your local bonded, insured, and licensed landscaping experts, we also design and install outdoor lighting which increases your property value and your enjoyment of your home. Let us design your outdoor lighting!

In our next post, we’ll share how an outdoor lighting system can save you money on your insurance and increase your safety.

Thanks for reading this! You are welcome back any time!
