We completed another successful project with our advanced rodent control lining system!
There’s nothing worse than a faulty valve and a valve box filled with mole damage. These small but mighty critters have been wreaking havoc on lawns for far too long, and the battle to protect our outdoor spaces from them is ongoing.
If you've ever had a lush, green lawn, you've probably also created the perfect environment for moles to thrive. You see, moles feast on grubs and worms—both of which are mostly water-based. When lawns are overly irrigated, water pockets form beneath the surface, creating the ideal conditions for worms and other soil-dwelling insects to thrive. And where there are worms, there will inevitably be moles, turning your pristine lawn into a feeding ground. If that’s not bad enough, adding old rotting stumps into the mix creates a mole’s dream scenario: endless insect larvae for them to feast on. What you might see as a picturesque, well-watered yard is a banquet table for a mole family, where they can dig, tunnel, and feast day and night.
In today’s project, we tackled two main problems that contribute to mole infestations: poor drainage and inefficient irrigation. First, we identified the areas where drainage was a serious issue. These areas tend to stay wet longer than necessary, making them prime spots for moles to dig in. By improving the drainage, we were able to remove one of the key conditions that attract these pests in the first place.
Next, we installed a state-of-the-art irrigation system designed to provide efficient and balanced watering. This system ensures the lawn gets just the right amount of water—no more, no less. Overwatering is one of the most common mistakes homeowners make, and it inadvertently invites moles by increasing grub and worm populations. Our new system is controlled with the click of a button from your mobile device, so you can easily adjust the amount of water your lawn gets, keeping it healthy without attracting unwanted pests.
An added bonus to this project was installing wire netting inside the valve boxes. Moles are notorious for making themselves at home in these boxes, which stay moist and provide a cozy nesting environment. With the netting in place, we’ve eliminated one of their favorite hiding spots. It’s a simple but highly effective way to stop them from turning your irrigation system into their home.
